What happens during a Caesarean section?
In most cases the surgeon makes a horizontal incision in the bikini area, opening the abdominal wall up one layer at a time. There is a less invasive form of Caesarean section which only involves partial opening of the abdominal wall. After the procedure, the layers of tissue are simply stitched back together. This method is beneficial because the edges of the wound are frayed, allowing them to heal more quickly and less painfully. Furthermore, the new mother is mobile again after a shorter time.
What do I need to bear in mind after a Caesarean section?
Soon after surgery, you need to stand up to get your circulation and muscles back to a normal rhythm. At the same time, you need to make sure you and your body get as much looking after as your new baby.
Specifically, this means taking things easy for 5-6 weeks, with no baths, lifting anything over 5 kg or sports. And of course, regular care of your scar.
